The city-run Elmhurst Hospital Center was one of the earliest and hardest-hit by COVID-19. With only 545 beds to spare, it was considered "the epicenter of the epicenter" of the health crisis.
And like many other hospitals across the country, Elmhurst faced a severe shortage of gowns, masks, gloves, and other materials that keep medical staff safe. In May, 1M MASKS worked with Elmhurst Hospital Center's Emergency Department to get their staff the PPE they so desperately needed.

Today, the data looks a lot better than it did in April. As the total number of COVID hospitalizations continues to decline, New York State is on track to contain the virus. The pandemic is not over, but we have made incredible progress.
